Martin Bryant - Managing Editor - The Next WebWith a particular interest in European startups, apps and the constant evolution of digital media, Martin Bryant is Managing Editor at The Next Web. Based in Manchester, UK he co-founded the city's Social Media Cafe events that helped kickstart a lively cross-discipline digital community in the city. A Broadcasting graduate, he is well-versed in the British media industry and moved into the digital content sector after having worked in education, helping children learn TV and radio skills. Following on from his talk at TedxManchester on Monday, Martin will speak about how to revive the tech ecosystem in Manchester and the North West. |

He has worked in venture capital, stockbroking and corporate finance with companies including 3i and KPMG. He has supported many software, IT services, creative and media companies from early stage funding through to IPO or sale. |

Mike Bakewell, Investment Manager, North West Fund 4 Energy & EnvironmentalThe North West Fund is a £184.8m evergreen investment fund established to provide debt and equity funding to small and medium sized enterprises in the North West of England. Of this £20 million is dedicated to energy and environmental companies. The Fund will address an identified gap in the lending, venture capital and private equity markets. Michael is an experienced venture capitalist with previous investment roles with Enterprise Ventures, Alliance Fund Managers and Finance Wales' Equity Fund. He has been a venture capital investor for 10 years and in this time has led or managed over 30 investments across a range of industry sectors. |
