Tech Mission London 2009 (#TechML09) provides a dynamic environment for Northern Tech community (tech entrepreneurs, investors, deal makers and service providers) to engage with their counterparts from London. Key objectives of this mission are to build new relationships and partnerships, share knowledge and best practices, and explore investment opportunities. The Mission includes a 3-hour workshop and a Dragon's Lair, where 8 tech startups will pitch up to 6 Dragons. In addition, TechML09 is organised to coincide with Being Digital Conference run by our partners, MashupEvent.




14:00 to 17:00 - build new relationships and partnerships, share knowledge and best practices, and explore investment opportunities. The workshop is targeted at northern and london based tech entrepreneurs, investors and deal makers with limited access to service providers. The programme will be amended to fit the requirements of the tech entrepreneurs, but likely to follow:

14:10 - 14:30 Keynote speech
14:30 - 15:00 60s pitches by startups
15:00 - 17:00 Breakout Sessions of three groups, sharing knowledge, experience and best practices, each chaired by Mentors (seasoned tech entrepreneurs, investors, et al)


The Dragon's Lair will take the same successful format as the two events held in Manchester, two sessions, each with 4 companies pitching up to 3 Dragons

Michael Birch - Founder, Bebo - £420m Tech Exit

Michael was CEO and Co-Founder of Bebo until it was sold to AOL in 2008 for £420 million. Previously, he sold, an early social network in 2003. Michael is an investor in several companies including, a computer gaming social network and, a place for users to sell goods online. In September 2008, he launched, a video dictionary website. Michael had joined forces with Brent Hoberman of and other successful entrepreneurs to launch a development fund to aid start-up technology companies, European Founders Capital (EFC).

From 1999 to 2005, he was at Yahoo! in London where he had senior corporate development roles covering strategy and M&A for their European operations, applying and gaining expertise across a multitude of internet products and business models.
